Study Abroad—From Hand to Machine: Technology of Crafts in China
The Museum and Georgia Tech's Department of History of Technology and Society are offering a special credit course that includes a 19 day trip to China.
The course will meet from May 17 through June 11, 2009 for 3 hours HTS credit. The course features in the field study of many Chinese crafts
including papermaking, silk making, lace making, silver jewelery making, textiles, emboidery, and jade carving. The class will spend the first
week at Georgia Tech before flying to Shanghai on May 23. From there the group will travel to Zhujiajao Water Town, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Xijang,
Shiqiao Village, Xi'an, and Beijing before retuning to Atlanta.
The registration deadline for the course is February 15, 2010. A $500 deposit is required at registration. The full course fee is $3763 based on double occupancy.
The course fee includes:
- Local bilingual tour guide
- National tour guide (goes to all cities)
- 4 star hotels
- Domestic air and train transportation in China
- Local deluxe charter bus transportation
- Most meals: American breakfasts, Chinese lunches and dinners
- One soft drink per lunch and dinner

The course fee does NOT include:
- Round-trip airfare (Atlanta to Shanghai and Beijing to Atlanta) Estimated cost: $1000–$1300

- Additional travel insurance
