Description: Green Gallery

Teachers and school administrators are invited to visit the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum at Georgia Tech for a Teacher’s Open House event. Tour the museum, make paper, and preview the museum’s newest exhibition and the new Paper in Our World gallery. Paper in Our World focuses on global warming and the important role that recycling, sustainability practices, and current research play in solving our environmental problems. Network with other educators and learn about school tours and workshops that offer teachers PLU opportunities. Bring a guest with you and explore the fascinating world of paper!

Girl Scouts

Visit the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum at Georgia Institute of Technology. Take a guided tour of the museum and learn the fascinating history of papermaking. See the tools used to make paper and try your hand at making paper. Create and bind your own journal to take home. This workshop will take place at the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum in collaboration with Girl Scouts of Northwest Georgia.

Free parking is available for participants in the lot next to our building.

Cost: $15 per girl; adults are free.

Book Arts I Workshop
The Wonderful World of Marbling: Marbling Techniques

Teachers can earn 1 PLU credit by signing up for this workshop and the five hour Book Arts Workshop II on Saturday, March 10th, 2012.
*Please check with your local professional learning coordinator to receive credit.*

This five hour workshop is the first of a two part bookmaking experience and is designed for book enthusiasts and teachers. Join Marcia Watt, expert papermaker and book artist, for an introduction to the magical world of Turkish paper marbling. Participants in this workshop will be led through the entire process of creating beautiful marbled paper in the Turkish fashion. All materials will be provided. This is one of our most popular workshops, so please register early.

Free parking is available for participants in the lot next to our building.

Book Arts II Workshop

on Sat., February 4th, 2012.
*Please check with your local professional learning coordinator to receive credit.*

This five-hour workshop is the second of a two-part bookmaking experience and is designed for book enthusiasts and teachers.  Join Marcia Watt, expert papermaker and book artist, for a day of creative bookmaking. Participants will learn 4 to 5 single sheet book structures. These structures are a creative way to share ideas and images. We will use some of the marbled paper made in Book Arts I for our books.  If you did not attend Book Arts I, we will supply you with marbled paper.

Free parking is available for participants in the lot next to our building.

Teacher’s Japanese Papermaking Workshop
A Hands-on Learning Experience


A 30 hour, week-long professional learning experience designed for 3 PLU credits*

This workshop is an in-depth study of Japanese Papermaking. It will cover the history of Japanese Papermaking and will explain its development and place in the culture and traditions of Japan.  Join an expert Japanese papermaker and learn about all the stages of Japanese papermaking from fiber collection and fiber preparation to hands-on traditional Japanese papermaking. This workshop will include a session on making a Japanese papermaking mold, or sugeta, as well as a session on Asian-style bookbinding with Andrew Hamilton, a talented book artist. A portion of this workshop was developed by Emory Professors  Dr. Mark Ravina and Dr. Cheryl Crowley. The research was made possible by a grant from the Japan Foundation. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
