Position:  Process Design Engineer, Full Time

Location: Lakewood, CO

Travel: Light to medium


General Purpose of the Position: As a key member of the technology team, this person will evaluate new and existing technologies for biofuels and bio-based commodity chemical production and assist the senior management team in making sound technical and economic decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct process and economic models for existing and alternative process configurations for the Company’s technology.


  • Conduct techno-economic studies on competing technologies


  • Work with CTO, R&D and Engineering functions to drive the technology plan for the company

Experience: 5+ years as a process design engineer in a corporate engineering or engineering consulting firm function, or similar demonstrated proof of process design experience.

Skills and Abilities: The position requires creative problem solving, flexibility in job assignment, a desire to learn new technical skills and ability to work in a team environment.  Specific skills include:

  • Extensive experience with process modeling software such as Aspen HYSYS. Preferred candidates will be fluent in Visual Basic for Applications or a similar programming language.


  • Applied knowledge of industrial chemistry, fundamentals of unit operations, computer simulations of phase equilibrium, and global process synthesis tools such as pinch technology.

Education: B.S. Chemical Engineering or equivalent. Candidates with M.S. and Ph.D. level degrees are strongly encouraged to apply.

PRODUCTION ENGINEER

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Production Engineer responsibilities are to support problem solving efforts mill-wide through planning and conducting trials directed toward productivity improvement, product development, quality improvements and cost reduction.  Production Engineers provide assistance to Production areas in evaluating changes to operation; aid operating personnel to better understand their processes and quality problems encountered.  Focus is on higher operating rates, efficiencies and de-bottlenecking.  Production Engineers complete cost reduction projects that provide significant savings through product substitution, reduced variability, improved quality, and higher operating efficiencies. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pulp and Paper Science, or a related area
  2. Two plus years of experience and results which demonstrates process troubleshooting and analytical problem solving abilities.
  3. Must have the ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  4. Examples of demonstrated leadership required.
  5. Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma (LSS), PI Process Book, SAP, computer modeling and statistics is highly desirable

 

PROCESS CONTROL ENGINEER

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Process Control Engineers work directly with mill operations solving a variety of short and long term problems and provide operational expertise to resolve operational/technical issues and drive productivity and cost saving initiatives.  They are responsible for optimizing the performance of the mill locations analog and distributed control systems to minimize variation and reduce costs.  Process Control Engineers will perform research, conduct trials and recommend changed to improve productivity, quality and reduce costs while working with maintenance personnel to optimize the performance of our control systems to minimize variation and meet specifications.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Instrumentation Technology
  • Two plus years experience demonstrated ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Proven experience troubleshooting with the following systems:  PLC, DCS, RSView, ControlLogix, GE Drive Systems, ABB and Rockwell  
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma (LSS), PI Process Book, SAP, computer modeling and statistics is highly desirable
