Analytical, environmental and organic chemistry. Sujit Banerjee is a Professor and Senior Fellow at IPST. He also directs the Electric Power Research Institute’s Forest Products Office at IPST. He obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, and his Ph.D. from Concordia University at Montreal in physical-organic Chemistry. Following a postdoctoral at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, he was a Senior Scientist at Syracuse Research Corporation for 6 years. He then spent 6 years as a Group Leader in the Department of Nuclear Energy at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He has been with the Institute since 1989 where his research interests are in paper recycling and environmental engineering. In the former area, he examines stickies, with a view to understanding their interaction with fiber and water under various operating conditions. His environmental work concerns VOCs from wood drying, sludge handling and reuse, and environmental modeling.
