Dr. Nikolai DeMartini's Ph.D. work focused on understanding the chemistry of nitrogen and sulfur compounds in the chemical recovery cycle, with an emphasis on minimizing emissions. He has also done solubility studies of sodium and potassium salts. Currently he is studying hard scale fouling in black liquor evaporators and recausticizing and is involved in the improvement of an integrated pulp mill model that will indicate what conditions can lead to processs upsets.
