New York -March 12, 2000 - Thomas
C. Norris, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of the P. H. Glatfelter Company, has retired
from the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Paper
Science and Technology after twelve years of dedicated
service. Mr. Norris has served on the Board since
1988 and was chairman from 1994 to 1996.
At the IPST Board Meeting, held at
the Waldorf Astoria in New York, March 12, 2000, the
current chairman, A. D. "Pete" Correll, noted "Tom has
served this institution well and has been a well-respected
leader of our industry. In a move which I would consider
typical of Tom, although he is leaving the Board, he
has agreed to continue to serve the Institute. He will
continue in a leadership role for the upcoming Capital
Campaign. We thank you for your past service and look
forward to the role that you will continue to play for
this Institute." President Ferris said, "Tom Norris has
been a model Board Member. He has unselfishly provided
the Institute with his time and his strong leadership." Mr.
Norris announced last June that he would be retiring
from P. H. Glatfelter Company in May 2000 and that the
new president and CEO would be George H. Glatfelter II.
Mr. Glatfelter was elected to the Institute's Board of
Trustees as a representative of the P. H. Glatfelter
Company.
