The IPST Member Channel now hosts
two new digital systems to provide access to IPST reports
and papers exclusively for its member companies - the
IPST Digital Collections and the PDF Archive, located
at:
http://members.ipst.edu/reports_publications/index.htm.
The IPST Digital Collections will
provide access to current and past IPST research reports,
technical papers, and dissertations. Currently in test mode, the
Digital Collections contains the full text, including images, of
Project Advisory Committee (PAC) Reports, 1998 - 2001. This database
features advanced document searching and browsing capabilities.
Users may search materials in two ways: by specific fields, such
as author, project number, or PAC name; or by the full text of
the document. Another valued feature is the ability to create document
browse lists by user specifications. IPST documents in the Digital
Collections are easily viewable in standard HTML format via the
World Wide Web; no special software is required to view these files.
The PDF Archive provides access
to older IPST dissertations (1933-99), technical papers
(up to August 2000) and research reports (1995-2000)
in the PDF format. They are searchable in two ways.
The faster, and newly improved Member Channel version
of the IPST Haselton Library catalog (Webcat) allows
users to search these documents by author, title, date,
and subject. The Inktomi web search engine is also
available to search the full text of the PDF-formatted
documents.
The Digital Collections represents
the latest technological approaches to preserving and
accessing digital information. The PDF Archive provides
a base of electronic access to IPST's older materials.
They are both initiatives of the IPST Haselton Library
and Knowledge Center, with funding support from the
IPST Knowledge Initiative. The Library and Knowledge
Center is currently working to integrate IPST's documents
already available on the Member Channel into the Digital
Collections, and will continue to make new documents
available as they are published. Customers' feedback
on these new digital information systems are welcome
at Tyler.Walters@ipst.gatech.edu.
